Our Service Coordinator through the WellElder Program works with residents to assess their needs and connects them with community-based organizations and government agencies that offer services to meet those needs. The Service Coordinatoralso acts as an advocate in residents' relations with Bethany Center management, long-term care professionals, physicians, medical groups, and others.

The Health Educator, under the WellElder Program, assists residents in gauging their health. Services include blood pressure and blood-sugar testing, medication monitoring, and nutrition consultation. Educational programs to encourage wellness are also offered. It should be noted that Bethany Center does not provide direct medical care, but residents may contract with On Lok Senior Health for continuing healthcare.

The Meals on Wheels program delivers meals daily and on weekends to qualifying residents. The San Francisco Food Bank distributes food monthly, again to qualifying residents. The Centro Latino also provides meals.

A podiatrist visits monthly; an acupuncturist makes a weekly visit.
Our gymnasium and computer-learning center are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Other services and events are: a monthly, on-site beauty salon, birthday celebrations, a monthly visit by a bookmobile from the San Francisco Public Library, games room, trips to casinos and museums, and weekly English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.
Public transportation is convenient and fast. The MUNI bus and subway system covers most of the city; BART trains run to the East Bay and to the San Francisco International airport; a Paratransit program serves persons with ambulatory difficulties.

Detailed information about Bethany Center events and other happenings appears semiannually in our newsletter The Marquee, as well as on this website under "Bethany in Action."
